Chantry Primary is an Academy located in Luton. The staff at Chantry had been using hosted email accounts for some time in conjunction with an MLE platform for their calendars and intranet. The IT Manager (Martin Davidson) was looking for a solution that would bring all of these disparate items into a single place to improve the end user experience and simplify the management of these systems. A big bonus for the IT team was to have logins synchronised with the On Premise Active Directory meaning users would have a single username and password for email, calendars, intranet and desktop login.
The school first approached Levett Consultancy at the BETT show. After having evaluated the various strengths of Google Apps for Education and Microsoft Office 365 the school opted for Levett Consultancy ‘School ina Box‘ classic offering based on Office 365 Education. This would bring their email, their calendars and intranet documents (via sharepoint) into one system – easily accessible by staff with the same login as they already use for their workstation.
Prior to the start date of the project, the Technical Services team worked with the school to identify the Office 365 Education features and settings required to meet the school’s needs as well as the relevant information needed for the setup. The Office 365 tenant was configured to reflect these needs and Microsoft Active Directory Sync setup to mirror windows user accounts and passwords in Office 365 Education.
With the accounts set up and ready to receive mail a staged migration was implemented. Mail was first migrated for the IT admins at the school to enable them to test mail client configuration on site. Following confirmation of the configuration groups of mailboxes were migrated separately to allow IT staff to more effectively check the users mail had migrated successfully.
Staff at Chantry Primary Academy are now only have to remember a single password for access to their workstations their email, shared calendars and intranet documents. IT Admins are able to provision accounts for all of these services in a single action as opposed to user creation in four different systems.
I first saw Levett Consultancy at a stand at the E2BN Conference. I found the staff friendly and knowledgeable. When we decided that we wanted to change our email system over, we contacted Levett and Paul the MD came to the school and gave us a demo of the different options.
They explained what they were doing throughout the process and the changeover was well managed, to keep disruption to a minimum.
Overall we were very happy with Levett and would consider using them again for other projects. Martin Davidson (ICT Manager)
