The Requirement
Cyril Jackson is an ambitious, successful and inclusive community school with a national and international reputation for providing a high standard of education located in East London. The school is based over two building in two different locations. Peter Smith-Langridge (ICT Leader) wanted a solution that would see teachers and pupils use just one single username and password across the buildings along with having access to one set of school resources.
For many years staff have had to use different username and passwords depending on what school building they worked in. Staff also used USB sticks when moving between buildings. So the challenge was to create a single network which staff and pupils could access unhindered whatever building they are working in.
The Solution
Levett Consultancy recommended split-site capabilities using Microsoft multi-site technology. Also recommended was Impero Education Pro teaching and management tools to manage the new multi-site deployment. Our consultant worked with Peter Smith-Langridge to plan the implementation ensuring minimal effect on teaching and learning.
During early August our Professional Services team reconfigured both of Cyril Jackson Primary School existing servers which consisted of:
- Upgrading the server RAM
- Configuration of Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS)
- Data migration from one domain into the new single domain
- Implementation of Impero server and management tools to manage both buildings connected devices
- Adding school laptops and workstations to the new domain
The Outcome
The project took two weeks to complete along with providing backup support when teacher and pupils arrived from their summer break. With Cyril Jackson using our Premium + and platinum support any problems that appeared were quickly dealt with ensuring minimal disruption to the teaching and learning.
Cyril Jackson now has a network that spans both buildings with staff and pupils using just one username and password to access resources regardless of what building they are working in. Using Impero Education Pro tools Cyril Jackson now has network management, desktop management and digital classroom management in one single consolidated solution.
I have been impressed with the solution provided by Levett Consultancy. Staff and pupils now can access school resources at any building and from home using Home Access Plus+ with just one username and password. The support provided by Levett Consultancy and the designated technician is second to none.Peter Smith-Langridge (Assessment Coordinator & ICT Leader)
